Plays from 10/29/07 meeting
October 31st, 2007
As with all clips from our association, please pay attention to the play and the officials’ positioning and NOT to WHO the officials are. These plays are not intended to embarrassor ridicule anyone. Those officials on the plays aren’t the only ones making these mistakes. They are to be used for training purposes. Our association can only get better through self reflection and review of film.
The following plays were presented during the 10/29/07 meeting for instructional use.
- Play #1
- Zoomed
- Slow Motion and Zoomed
- Initial Positions
- Referee too close to the deepest back
- Watch the linemen near the referee as the play ends
- Play #2
- Freeze Frame of official with back to players
- Clean up the play UNTIL the players return inbounds
- Play #3
- Zoomed and slow motion
- Watch the umpire
- Play #4
- Freeze Frame
- How can we rule on a TD if we are at the 10 yard line when it happens?
- The BJ must recognize that it is going to be a long run and immediately turn and run once the play opens up. Do not let them pass you and attempt to catch up in this situation.
- Play #5
- Wingmen need to get to the goal line IMMEDIATELY on the snap
- The linesman STARES at the QB until he releases the ball
- The referee is ruling incomplete on a pass in the endzone?
- Why is the line judge signal incomplete on a play that is on the other side of the field?!
- Play #6
- Zoomed and slow motion
- obvious illegal motion penalty that must be called early in the game
- Play #7
- A hold is called on the left slot receiver
- This is NOT illegal activity and should be ignored. The defensive player makes no attempt to get away from the contact and the runner is tackled in the vicinity of the block
- Evaluate the ENTIRE play before throwing a flag
- Play #8
- The Line Judge is not on the sideline at the snap and is meandering down the field. This looks lazy and the official is not covering their responsibility
- The Linesman doesn’t break down the field to cover his receiver until the ball is thrown. This is TOO LATE
- Play #9
- Freeze Frame
- Zoom Slow Motion
- No contact = no foul
- The official who called the foul had the 4th best view of the play
- DO NOT GUESS
- If you know there wasn’t contact in this situation, don’t just sit back and let the referee enforce this penalty
- Play #10
- Zoom slow motion
- This is correctly called as a hold on the left tight end
- It is at the point of attack and clearly affects the play
- Play #11
- Slow motion
- IBIB called on this play
- Enforced from A’s 40 yard line
- There is nothing around the 40 that is worthy of a penalty
- Negated a 50 yard run
- Play #12
- Slow motion
- Obvious late hit that the umpire calls
- The linesman is staring right at it and doesn’t have a flag
