Plays from 10/8/2007 Meeting
October 9th, 2007
As with all clips from our association, please pay attention to the play and the officials’ positioning and NOT to WHO the officials are. These plays are not intended to embarrassor ridicule anyone. Those officials on the plays aren’t the only ones making these mistakes. They are to be used for training purposes. Our association can only get better through self reflection and review of film.
The following plays were presented during the 10/9/07 meeting for instructional use. You might need to download and install the following video codec to view the videos: Click HERE to download

- Initial Positions
- Referee too deep
- Wing Officials on the sideline
- BJ way too deep, not even in the picture
- Passing play
- Umpire needs to hustle to the line of scrimmage
- Interception
- No need to throw your bean bag
- Initial Positions
- Play #2
- Don’t get too close to the players while the action is still going on
- Wing officials need to stay on the sideline until the play has ended
- Play #3
- Extra Point Attempt
- This player CANNOT legally block below the waist
- Wing officials need to work hard to see this play
- Referee can help, if available
- Play #4

- A 5 yard previous spot penalty is enforced
- Can anyone find something wrong with the offensive team at the snap?
- 7 men on the line of scrimmage
- Illegal Motion
- Illegal Shift
- More than 11 men on offense
- Big Gain on the play that is nullified
- When the coach watches the play on film and can’t figure out what the penalty is, it becomes a problem
- Penalties NEED to be obvious
- Play #5
- Initial positions
- Similar from play #1
- Umpire doesn’t step to the line of scrimmage
- This becomes a problem on this play because the U gets in the way of several of the passing routes over the middle
- The Linesman on this play should not be blowing their whistle and signaling incomplete or complete pass. The BJ and LJ are right on top of the play
- Initial positions
- Play #6
- the play in slow motion
- TD play
- Brought back because of an Illegal Block in the Back penalty
- This is a classic example of our need to see the ENTIRE block
- This block is in the side and completely LEGAL
- The team settled for a FG at the end of the drive and ended up losing the game by 3 points
- Play #7
- There is an illegal block below the waist on the left tackle
- Good job cleaning up out of bounds plays on the sideline
- Turn and face the players out of bounds until they return in bounds
- Play #8
- the play without a pause
- Long pass play
- The wing officials are STARING into the backfield and leaving the Back Judge to cover 10 players by himself
- Linesman and LJ need to cover their responsibilities and trust the R to do his job
- There is a difference between turning quickly to get a status of the ball and staring at the ball during the entire play
- Play #9
- the contact in slow motion
- Holding call on Tate defensive back covering the left slot receiver
- Evaluate the entire contact and let the play develop
- The contact is minimal and should be ignored
- In addition, the QB never looks at this receiver
- Play #10
- Official calls a False Start on the near WR
- This is not simulating a snap and should not be flagged
- Play #11
- Onside kick positions (this clip shows them incorrectly)
- We need 2 officials on each restraining line to rule on:
- encroachment
- K touching the ball before it goes 10 yards
- BJ and LJ on K’s restraining line
- Linesman and Umpire on R’s restraining line
- Referee behind the deepest receiver
- We need 2 officials on each restraining line to rule on:
- Onside kick positions (this clip shows them incorrectly)
